Lunchtime Talk : Eco Countertop by Cosentino
Cosentino Singapore together with GreenVineDesign organize a lunchtime talk to introduce their ECO Series product. It happened on 22 May 2016 which also to be the same day as the Earth Day. The venue is located at 34/35 Duxton Road, Singapore 089498 which is the Cosentino's Showroom itself.
It started with the introduction from Ms. Yun, the Managing Director of GreenVineDesign and the presentation begin with the understanding of what is upcycling. Upcycling is a method to turn the trash into treasure, for example like turning the clothes hangers into table/chair. The advantage of this process is actually it can reduce the global waste and what Cosentino do is they created a upcycled countertop. This countertop consist of 25% non-recycled material and 75% recycled material of glass from post-consumer (ex: glass bottle) and post-indutrial (ex: cladding).
Manufacture Process
It is manufactured at the Cosentino headquarters which is located in the coastal town of Almeria, Spain. The manufacture process is put attention to the respect and protect of the environment. The raw material is supplied by commercial organization who specialize in waste management and then it goes through a cleaning, filtering, and grading process. Next, the materials are poured into a mixer, combined with the Cosentino environment resin (partially made from vegetable) and when the mixture has melted, it is poured again onto conveyor belt then it compressed by vibrocompression system. The product is baked in an industrial oven for 1 hours and it left for cooling down by 1 day to avoid potential cracks or damage of the slab. Last, the slab is calibrated and polished with diamond buffing pads to create the finished product to make it looks shiny.
For you, who are eco conscious yet also stylish, this product is exactly for you because it's also available in many colors. The thickness is available in 3 different kind which are 12, 20, and 50 mm. The price is quite expensive but compare to quartz, it almost have the same price about S$ 210-230 PSF and the quality is very good as it is high resistance and include in world's no.7 surface resistance. This product also provides easy maintenance, only soap and water and a little extra caution for stubborn stains, sun exposure, sudden change of temperatures, and chemical substance.
In my opinion, the price for this product is suitable with the quality that this countertop has. It is very eco friendly yet so durable. The only consideration to use this product in Singapore is that because the manufactured of the product is in Spain, the carbon foot-print produce from transportation will reduce the sustainability of this product. But, as the eco-friendly counter top is very rare in Singapore, this could be the better choice rather than using normal countertop.
To anyone that wants to know more about this countertop, you can visit the Cosentino's showroom or do consultation with GreenVineDesign (recommended eco specialist from Cosentino).
